About classics for christians
- This website is designed to enable home educated children to sit the Cambridge International Exams IGCSE in Latin. The perspective is Christian from the word go - not just a worldly course with the nude statues taken out! We will begin by looking at the tower of Babel and cover such topics as classical languages and the Bible, and the difference between pagan and Christian ideas. It is possible to do the IGCSE from scratch with no previous knowledge of Latin in two years. The introductory year makes it a richer and fuller experience and enables us to lay a broad and Christian foundation to the subject.
- My only qualifications for teaching Latin are a Latin A level a long time ago and my experience in teaching Latin to my own home educated children - one of who did very well in the Cambridge International Exams Latin O level (the same as IGCSE).
- Each year will consist of 30 weeks of lessons divided into three terms.
Each week in Year 1 will have the following structure:
Day 1 Bible related topics
Day 2 Grammar and vocabulary with exercises and memory work.
Day 3 Steps towards literature - simple English versions of foundational Greek and Roman stories.
Day 4 Classical thought
Structure of Years 2 and 3 to be announced.
